Egypt Opens Alamein Africa Forum to Deepen Trade and Investment Ties
Egypt opened the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum in New Alamein City on Friday, October 2, 2026, with the event running through October 4. According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the forum aimed to strengthen African trade and investment ties and foster cross-border partnerships among government officials, business leaders, and financial institutions.
Attendees come from across Africa and represent sectors such as infrastructure, trade, critical minerals, digital innovation, health, and emerging industries. The event is organized by the Government of Egypt in cooperation with Afreximbank and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), with the African Union also serving as a convening partner, according to official forum materials.
The forum is expected to host approximately 1,500 participants, including government officials, business leaders, investors, and representatives of regional and international financial institutions, according to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said the forum aims to connect companies, markets, investors, and financial institutions to strengthen links among African businesses and promote cross-border partnerships. Abdelatty emphasized the forum’s focus on moving beyond discussions to concrete projects, investment agreements, financing mechanisms, and business partnerships that support increased intra-African trade. The forum’s agenda covers trade, food security, energy, infrastructure, financing, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals, with ministerial and business sessions addressing agriculture, energy, and transport corridors, officials confirmed.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly described the event as a permanent platform designed to convert Africa’s economic potential into investment and concrete projects. Madbouly said the forum brings together governments, businesses, development institutions, and financial organizations to strengthen African economic integration. He also highlighted Egypt’s intention to position New Alamein City as a venue for major African economic and political gatherings, according to government statements.
The forum coincides with the summit of founding member states of AUDA-NEPAD and the African Union’s eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, sources said. Organizers plan for the Alamein Africa Forum to become a biennial event that provides a recurring platform for governments, financiers, and businesses to coordinate investment opportunities and foster economic integration across the continent.
Private-sector discussions reportedly include joint industrial ventures, improved access for small and medium-sized enterprises, trade finance and export guarantees, and support for technology startups expanding across African markets, according to participant briefings. Afreximbank is expected to play a key role in facilitating trade, investment, financing, and economic integration efforts during the forum, officials said.
The forum’s stated objective is to turn African development priorities into implementable projects capable of attracting investment, with a particular emphasis on sectors that connect production, infrastructure, finance, technology, and regional markets. The event aims to generate cross-border partnerships among African companies and investors through dialogue focused on concrete business outcomes rather than declarations alone, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry sources.
The inaugural Alamein Africa Forum marks Egypt’s effort to deepen trade and investment ties within Africa by establishing a permanent business platform that integrates government and private-sector stakeholders. The forum’s timing alongside key African Union meetings underscores its role in supporting continental economic coordination and development initiatives.
