Taking to Twitter on Monday, November 7, the non-believers appealed for help to raise KSh 18,000 to settle the society’s monthly office rent.

Also, in partnership with the Human Rights for Atheists, the society is running a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the immediate needs of its president Harrison Mumia.

“The cash will assist the president, Harrison Mumia, with rental costs while in between jobs – after being fired by his employer for a tweet – so he can concentrate on his vital role as president of the only registered atheist organization in Kenya,” read the society’s statement in part.

The organization said the money that will be raised will also finance its legal battle to survive what it termed as the face of anti-atheist bigotry being exercised by members of the Kenyan government.

“AIK is under attack by members of the Kenyan government who are seeking to outlaw this organization of non-believers and infringe upon both their Kenyan constitutional right to exist (Articles 32 and 36),” Mumia told TUKO.co.ke.
