Candice Warner reveals how her husband David’s romantic proposal in South Africa didn’t go to plan

Candice and David Warner tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in 2015.

And while their wedding was a fairytale come true, Candice has revealed her cricketer husband’s proposal in South Africa the year prior did not quite go to plan.

The former Ironwoman, 37, revealed on Triple M’s Rush Hour that David, 35, had planned a romantic day for the couple but she wasn’t able to enjoy any of the activities because she was three months pregnant.

That’s awesome! Candice Warner (pictured) has revealed how her husband David’s romantic proposal in South Africa in 2014 didn’t exactly go to plan

‘He had an amazing plan. We were in South Africa and we were going to climb Lion’s Head [a mountain in Cape Town] but it was too windy so that didn’t go ahead,’ she explained.

‘So we went to the beach for a picnic. He popped the champagne and I was pregnant so I couldn’t drink it, so he was there drinking the whole bottle of champagne while I watched.’

She continued: ‘We went back to the hotel and there was this beautiful hot bath with rose petals everywhere. But again, being pregnant, I couldn’t go into the hot bath, so he sat there drinking more champagne in the hot bath while I watched.’

Candice revealed the batsman ended up proposing to her later that night.

The couple wed in 2015 and share daughters Ivy, seven, Indi, five, and Isla, two.

The former athlete is balancing work with motherhood after landing a plum role as a commentator at the 2022 Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman series.

‘Being a mum of three is extremely tough but very rewarding, and being able to work and be back on the beach is going to be one of those dream jobs,’ Candice told Woman’s Day in December.

‘When you know the sport, love it and know the competitors, I don’t see it as work; I see it as a great day at the beach,’ she added.

The comments came weeks after the SAS Australia star admitted to crying in her car from the stress and loneliness while David was away playing cricket overseas.

Candice made the heartbreaking admission on Nova’s Not Another Parenting Podcast in December.

‘It has been a challenge, and you think as a mum, as a wife, as anyone, you’re invincible. But we all have our weaknesses, our moments,’ she said.

‘And there’s been times where… I’ve been driving and I just break down into tears. Or my kids are screaming in the back. I’m just like, “When is this going to end?”‘

Candice revealed her husband is ‘generally away 300 days of the year’ and that the couple had spent only three months together out of the last 14.

‘It’s difficult because he’s your husband and your best friend. And that’s the person who you turn to normally,’ she continued.
