Coronavirus live: India reports 39,742 new cases; South Africa loosens curbs

Coronavirus updates: India has reported 39,742 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday. The death toll from Covid-19 rose by 535 deaths in the past 24 hours to a total of 420,551.

Biocon may be considering filing for full marketing authorization for itolizumab, a novel antibody product for the treatment of Covid-19, in India. The private sector plans to ramp up Covid-19 vaccination in towns and villages with more camps and community engagement initiatives as it reports concerns about procurement and supplies.

Worldwide coronavirus updates: Hundreds of children – many under the age of five – have died in Indonesia in recent weeks from Covid, a death rate higher in any other country, the New York Times reported, citing doctors. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa eased virus restrictions after new infections slowed and the country’s vaccination program picked up, Bloomberg reported.
