Cricket Australia versus South Africa, take a look at tour 2021: CSA complains to ICC, World Check Championship

The aftermath of Australia’s decision not to play the Proteas next month continues, and Cricket South Africa complains to the International Cricket Council.

CSA has written a letter to the cricket governing body asking it to consider financial compensation for its less affluent members if tours are canceled amid Australia’s decision not to attend due to overwhelming health advice.

In the letter seen by ESPNCricinfo, CSA said Australia’s decision not to tour was “against the spirit of the sport” and raised concerns about “serious effects on the financial well-being of less wealthy” cricket nations.

CSA interim committee chairman Stavros Nicolaou told ESPNcricinfo: “There needs to be some understanding of how we deal with the impact on less affluent nations.

“Unilateral decisions of this kind are a criminal offense for less wealthy cricket-playing nations and there needs to be a discussion of remedies.”

From today’s perspective, the ICC cannot take any action as CSA has not yet filed a formal complaint that is required to bring the case to a dispute settlement committee.

The publication is known to have written the letter to open the discussion of financial compensation in the future due to ongoing complications related to the coronavirus pandemic.

An important sticking point concerns the test world championship, in which the Australian Tour of South Africa was involved.

CSA believes that the integrity of the competition will not be preserved if the nations can unilaterally decide to withdraw from a tour.

ESPNCricinfo reports that CSA has also written to CA saying it expects “reputational damage” and is losing revenue “that it can hardly afford”.

CA was keen for the tour to continue and even offered to do the tour on local shores to make sure it continued. CSA declined the offer.

Given the financial importance of the Australia Tour, CSA has done its best to create a bio-safe environment.

This included obtaining government permits for players to get on a bus from the airport tarmac and allocating beds in private hospitals if required.

Ultimately, Cricket Australia was unwilling to take the risk that its health authorities would find it “unacceptable”.

Nicolaou claims the pencil was pulled too early.

“The reasons Australia cited seemed inconsistent with the pandemic,” Nicolaou claimed. “If we had received this communication from you in December, it might be justified. Despite the so-called South African tribe, the downward trend has decreased by 75% from the peak. “

He added that CSA would have liked the opportunity to explain the “downtrend” of the virus in South Africa and provide guarantees for the biosecurity environment that it supposedly could make it through.

However, there are still more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases per day in South Africa, although this is the case from around 15,000 per day in mid-January.
