Egypt’s handball team qualifies for the quarter-finals of the U21 World Cup

The Egyptian U20 national handball team qualified for the quarter-finals of the IHF Men’s U21 World Championship, which took place in Spain from July 16 to 28, 2019, after narrowly winning 30:29 against Serbia in the 16th round.

Egypt scored the winning goal a few seconds before the final whistle after the Serbian side managed to score the 29:29 draw in the final minute of the game.

The Egyptian team finished the first half 15-14 on the board.

Egypt ranked first for Group B after beating Australia, Nigeria, Sweden, South Korea and France, while Serbia finished fourth in Group A with two wins against Japan and the United States.

Egypt is the first non-European team to have taken first place since 2009, when Brazil did.

Egypt ranked second on the list of teams with the most goals scored after France after scoring 188 goals in the first round.

Egypt face Norway in the quarter-finals after losing to Brazil 29-28 in the sixteenth round.
