Ex-South Africa Batter says India is “not patient enough” in Johannesburg test

Former South African player Daryll Cullinan gave a close look at Team India’s tactics in the second friendly in Johannesburg after the visiting team lost by seven wickets. Cullinan highlighted the poor lengths thrown by the Indian bowlers that allowed South Africa to capitalize on their hunt for the 240-run target set by India. Cullinan selected Jasprit Bumrah and compared the areas he bowled to Pacer Kagiso Rabada. Cullinan said South African bowlers “let the wicket do the work” and play the patient game.

“Let’s go back to when South Africa bowled yesterday [second innings] and India advanced. Remember, the runs were easy, Marco Jansen and Lingi Ngidi opened and then came Rabada … ESPNCricinfo.

The former South African said India was not “patient” and sometimes looked like they were “expecting something to happen”. He pointed a finger at India’s tactics and how KL Rahul missed a trick in the chase in South Africa.

“Yes, they changed their length and used the short ball more against the Indian batter. But it’s remarkable when you think of Bumrah taking a wicket. In a friendly with a wicket that didn’t play well. Invariably not “it is true if (the) ball stays down more then one strives to get straighter? I think we mentioned that India was not patient enough, almost as if they were expecting something to happen. Maybe.” that was the instruction. But let’s also go to the bowling page, the information outside of the field since Rahul missed the trick, “he added.

Cullinan stated that South Africa was allowed to score runs “far too easily”, which in turn reflected that India had gotten too loose on “too many fundamental factors of test cricket”.

“They seem to believe and think that things will happen instead of playing the puzzle again. But what are the benefits of wickets, good or bad wickets? weren’t smart enough. South Africa made the runs way too easy, they had to make South Africa work so much harder for these runs. And I think it depends on India’s way of thinking. I think they were too loose in too many of the basics factors of Test cricket, one of which is to be consistent in your lines and lengths, “he concluded.

The final test is scheduled to begin on January 11th in Cape Town.
