President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was officially presented with the African of the Year 2021 award on December 9th in the Jubilee House in Accra.
He was announced as the winner of the Forbes Africa Magazine award on December 3, 2021.
At the time, in an interview with CNBC Africa, he said of the award: “I am very grateful for myself for the African version of the magazine that attacks me.”
The President’s Grip shared photos of top Forbes executives presenting him with the award and a framed photo of the magazine cover revealed during its unveiling.
“On Thursday, December 9th, 2021, I officially received the Forbes“ African of the Year Award ”from Forbes Magazine. #AfricanOfTheYear “, was the accompanying message.
In his speech, after the Forbes Africa team leader explained the reasons for his election as Person of the Year, the President first dedicated the award to the Ghanaian people in front of members of the government and himself.
“I have a maximum of eight years to try to influence this country, so it was a huge inspiration for me. Getting as many things off the ground as possible, but I’m glad it’s bringing results.
“Basically it (the award) is the result of my government, not just from myself, but from all the different people who have helped me, and also from the people.
“The Ghanaian people, who made these decisions and supported my work very much, I see this award or this award more or less as an award for Ghana, for my government and finally for myself, but I have to admit that it is is overwhelming and I appreciate it.
“On behalf of all of these people … I want to say a big thank you to you and the members of your board of directors for this selection and hopefully the rest of our work that we have to do before my time is up will not.” he added.

The 2021 edition is the fourth year of the award. Akufo-Addo joins an internationally recognized elite club of its peers in Africa.
It started with Paul Kagame from Rwanda (2018), Akinwumi A. Adesina, President, African Development Bank Group (2019) and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General, World Trade Organization (2020).
Renuka Methil, Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Africa said: “We named the President of Ghana African of the Year, especially for his consistency, he assures.
“He has definitely helped raise the international profile of his country and also for the rest of Africa … he is actually shifting the borders not only for Ghana, but for the rest of Africa.”
The Forbes African of the Year is always given to an African of international repute, to a visionary who is ready to bring serious reforms to the country in which he lives.
