Hot spot: TotalEnergies eyes wildcat in South Africa block near Venus discovery

TotalEnergies has filed an exploration plan with South Africa’s authorities covering a potential multi-well wildcatting campaign in a high-profile block in the Orange Basin in 2024.

The Deep Water Orange Basin (DWOB) block is located immediately south of the French supermajor’s Venus discovery in Namibia waters and is considered to be one of the most prospective licenses in this basin, south of the median line.

TotalEnergies’ application to secure environmental approval covers one exploration well, with the possibility that up to nine follow-up wells could be drilled if the debut probe is a success.
