South Africa suffered a defeat against Sri Lanka in the fifth place playoff match at the current ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in North Sound on Sunday. Despite the 65-run loss, the Proteas had many positives, most notably their lineup. Andile Simelane perfectly demonstrated South Africa’s outfield skills with an outstanding catch during the game. During the ninth over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Sakuna Liyanage received a short delivery from Matthew Boast, which he cornered for the second outside slip, where a leaping Simelane saw the ball rebound on his palm and then dove backwards to catch it on the rebound. The ICC posted a video of the highlight on Instagram and also captioned it “Andile Simelane – Catch of the Tournament?”.

Here’s the video:

Sri Lanka set a target of 233 runs for their opponents after posting 232 for six in 50 overs.

Dunith Wellalage was on top form, smashing 113 runs from 130 balls and also smacking nine fours, four sixes.

Meanwhile, Ranuda Somarathne also went unbeaten for half a century.

Kwena Maphaka and Boast were in fine form for South Africa, conceding three and four wickets respectively.

The Proteas chased a goal of 233 and were bowled for 167 in 37.3 overs. Gerhardus Maree scored the best goal for his side with 44 runs and 43 deliveries.

Traveen Mathew, Shevon Daniel and Raveen de Silva each conceded two wickets for Sri Lanka.
