Nairobi – Kenya’s leading radio broadcaster Capital FM partnered with the WRC Safari Rally on Monday to become the official UK broadcasting station for the global flagship project taking place in Kenya June 24-27.
Preparations for the event, which will return to Kenya for the first time in 19 years, are at an advanced stage. The Service Park is slated to be open to everyone on June 11, while the media center, which will host international and local journalists, is slated to open until June 21.
Farida Idris, Commercial Director of Capital Group Limited, at the signing of the contract at the WRC Safari Rally Secretariat at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani, said the partnership reinforces the broadcaster’s support for the sport in the country.

Phineas Kimathi, WRC Safari Rally CEO, welcomed the partnership and said the appointment was part of Capital FM’s longstanding relationship with the Kenyan Motorsports Association.

The epic and highly anticipated WRC event revolves around Lake Naivasha and Lake Elementeita within the prestigious ecosystem.
The event will be attended by the three WRC manufacturing teams Toyota Gazoo Racing, M-Sport Ford and Hyundai Motorsport WRT.
WRC defending champion and current front runner Sebastien Ogier heads a high-profile list of 52 top drivers competing for supremacy at the WRC Safari Rally from June 24th to 27th in Naivasha.

Frenchman Ogier, who also won the 2019 WRC title, will represent the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team. Other participants are Elfyn Evans, Kalle Rovanpera and Takamoto Katsuta, who will compete in the Toyota Yaris in the WRC RC1 category.
Hyundai is represented by Thierry Neuville, Ott Tanak and Dani Sordo, while M-Sport Ford has rolled up its sleeves and is not taking any chances, using Gus Greensmith, Adrien Fourmaux, Teemu Sunninien, Lorenzo Bertelli and Martin Prokop.
The list released today also includes over 30 locals in the support categories, led by R5 speedsters Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo, Onkar Rai, Tejveer Rai and Karan Patel.
Tundo will drive the Minti Motorsport VW Polo that he used in the Equator Rally. Onkar and his older brother Tejveer will also tackle the event behind the wheel of a VW Polo R5.
Karan Patel drove a Ford Fiesta R5. He is the only Kenyan driver to have raced in the WRC in the past few years when he contested five European events.
