Kenya recorded 1,153 new coronavirus infections on Saturday.
A total of “1,153 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, out of a sample size of 9,316 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 156,318. Cumulative tests performed so far total 1,641,015 The positivity rate was 12.4%, “Mercy Mwangangi, Chief Administrative Secretary of Health, said in a statement.
Kenya announced on Saturday that 822,651 residents had been vaccinated against the virus by the end of the day on Friday.
“The number includes audiences including healthcare workers, security guards, teachers, and those over the age of 58,” said Mwangangi.
She sadly found that 20 deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours, resulting in 2,603 deaths.
The news comes a day after Kenya released prisoners to ease jail congestion and plans to release more.
“Since the pandemic was first reported in the country, we have released more than 14,000 inmates as part of the discharge of the prisons in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health,” said Zeinab Hussein, chief secretary of prisons, at a press conference.
According to Kenya, there are currently 1,453 patients in various healthcare facilities across the country, while 6,832 patients are isolated and cared for.
A total of 210 are in the intensive care units, 49 on ventilation support and 130 on additional oxygen.
Thirty-one patients are followed.
