Kenya’s Kakuzi Avocado Farm Associated With Abuse Closes Lawsuit | news

A British-owned avocado farm in Kenya has given way after accused of using the law to silence its critics by suing charities supporting alleged abuse victims.

Kakuzi, a giant avocado farm near Nairobi that supplies major UK supermarkets, said Friday it would withdraw a lawsuit filed with the Kenyan Supreme Court in March.

UK supermarkets stopped selling the farm’s avocados after the Sunday Times reported allegations in October that their security forces regularly attacked villagers and workers.

In February, the farm’s UK owners, Camellia, paid £ 4.6 million to settle a case brought to the UK by its security forces of 85 alleged abuse victims. However, it admitted no liability.
