Kiunjuri presents plans for aspirants seeking support for Mt. Kenya

Service Party chairman Mwangi Kiunjuri said any hopeful presidential candidate seeking support from the Mt. Kenya region must secure a referendum within the first 100 days.

During a funeral ceremony in the village of Siakago, Mberry North, Kiunjuri said the Mt. Kenya region will only receive a fair share of the national cake if the constitution is changed.

The TSP leader said he will try to reintroduce some clauses in the 2020 Constitutional Amendment Act that include equal representation and fair sharing of the national pie.

“We can’t have a man with a shilling for a vote if we don’t have a referendum. So if you want our support, you have to guarantee us a referendum in the first 100 days. This should be an irreducible minimum for the Mt. Kenya region, ”said Kiunjuri.

With around 8 million votes, the mountain region should benefit from additional constituencies and an increased allocation of funds if the proposals of the 2020 Constitutional Amendment Act go through.

Kiunjuri wants all hopeful presidential candidates to reveal how their government will improve the life of the voting region and what strategy they intend to use to turn the economy inside out.

“Mt. Kenya is an agricultural zone, we want the presidential candidates to assure us that they will comply with the Malabo declaration and allocate 10% of the state budget to agriculture. We are a signatory to this declaration and so it should be respected, ”said Kiunjuri.

He said he would present the TSP’s Irreducible Minimum Memorandum to all aspirants and only support those who mean well to the region.
