The South African homeschooling provider Impaq is launching a new online school in September 2021.
For 20 years, Impaq, which belongs to the Optimi Group, has been paving the way for structured homeschooling in South Africa. During that period, more than 169,000 learners have used their educational services, the group said.
With the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for Impaq’s homeschooling offering – which follows the CAPS curriculum and is aimed at students in grades R-12 – has accelerated as a record number of families over the past 18 months changed to this form of education is mentioned.
As a result, Impaq announced that it had launched an online school with full supervision for English and African speakers. This step completes Impaq’s offer as a provider of distance learning in South Africa.
Admission to the online school will officially open on September 1, 2021, with the school slated to target students in grades 7-11 in 2022. It is planned to expand to other grade levels from 2023, said Impaq.
“While Impaq’s traditional homeschooling offers parents the opportunity to teach their children, online school will go even further and divide children into classes with highly qualified teachers. Class sizes will be limited to 30 children, and the online school teachers will conduct classes virtually.
“Timetables will be an important part of the school and will include structured times to improve fitness and mental wellbeing. Learners are also encouraged to take part in other activities such as a robotics club and fitness events. Impaq’s online school also works with the “It’s OK” app for mental health to monitor and ensure the mental well-being of the learners. “
Impaq said a sophisticated Optimi learning platform will monitor children’s educational progress. This online system can help identify children’s learning gaps and ensure that educational outcomes are tracked and achieved.
Impaq joins Curro and the University of Cape Town (UCT) in introducing online curriculum for students.
Registration and costs
For families who would like to register their children for Impaq’s new online school, all you have to do is visit the Impaq website, click on the registration page and activate the additional “Online School” option.
The online school costs are competitive, covering books, exam fees, and practical exam costs, Impaq said. For students in grades 7-9 these costs start at R 2,200 per month and for students in grades 10-11 it starts at R 2,669 per month.
