Nigeria sees film production grow 1.44% – NBS

The number of films produced by Nollywood in the second quarter of 2021 reaches 635 compared to 416 in the first quarter of 2021.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced this in its Nollywood Movies production data for the second quarter of 2021 released on Wednesday.

According to the NBS, the number shows a growth of +53.93% compared to the previous quarter.

It also states that the number of films produced in the second quarter of 2020 was 626, a year-over-year growth of 1.44%.

Lagos has the highest number of films produced by location in the second quarter of 2021 with 234, closely followed by Abuja with 196 films and followed by Onitsha 174.

Jos produced 9 and Kano 8, while Benin and Port-Harcourt recorded the fewest with 7 films each.

The number of films produced in the first quarter in the year quarter was 416.

During this time Abuja produced 107 films, Onitsha 140, Lagos 149, Benin 2, Bauchi 2, Kano 4, Port-Harcourt 12. Both the state and Bauchi recorded 0 productions.

Remember, the country produced a total of 2,599 films in 2020. A breakdown of the number by quarter found the country produced 407 films in the first quarter, 2,626, 3,663, and 4th quarters.
