Nigerian separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu has been arrested again and is on trial in Nigeria

Kanu went missing when he failed to appear in court in 2015 and his whereabouts prior to arrest were unknown. The officers did not disclose where he was arrested.

“He was returned to Nigeria to continue trial after disappearing on bail on 11 charges against him,” Malami said.

Kanu was arrested on Sunday June 27, 2021.

Kanu was originally arrested on October 14, 2015 on 11 counts that bordered on terrorism, high treason, managing an illegal society, posting defamatory content, illegal gun possession and improper importation of goods, among others, Malami said.

He is accused of engaging in subversive activities, including inciting violence through television, radio and online broadcasts against Nigeria and the Nigerian state and institutions.

Kanu is also accused of instigating violence, particularly in southeastern Nigeria, which has resulted in the loss of lives and property of civilians, military, paramilitary, police forces and the destruction of civil institutions and government symbols, Malami said.

“Nnamdi Kanu was brought to court today – Court 2, Federal Supreme Court. He will be brought back (to court) on the 27th of next month, ”Nigerian Attorney General’s spokesman Umar Gwandu told CNN.
