The African duo want to make their debut for the Red Devils in Thursday’s Europa League game in Turin
Nigerian teen sensation Shola Shoretire and Ivory Coast youngster Amad Diallo were added to Manchester United’s 22-man squad for their UEFA Europa League away game against Real Sociedad on Thursday.
Shoretire, who turned 17 earlier this month, received his first professional contract last Monday after his impressive performance in the U23.
He is moving to Diallo, who made a permanent move from Serie A club Atalanta in January in order to aim for his first appearances with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the Allianz Stadium.
When asked about young players’ involvement, Solskjaer revealed that Shoretire and Diallo have earned their spots after training with the first team and may even be needed to help the team against Real Sociedad.
“Yes, you are on the travel roster. Not just because of the experience, they are there to make a difference if they have to, ”Solskjaer told the club website.
“The two boys have trained well and are talents that we want to give experience. First they travel and then we want to see if they get on the field.
“It’s one of the things we do with our children. They come in and travel step by step, layer by layer and suddenly they are on the field. That’s the thing – we have a plan and a program to adhere to.
“If there is an injury, absenteeism or illness, they may get a chance before we expected, but they both did well.”
Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani were excluded from the game due to injuries. However, Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly could be thrown into battle for his first appearance since Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Fulham on January 20.
