Oshoala: Hot Nigerian striker meets Barcelona against Eibar

Asisat Oshoala scored in Barcelona’s 3-0 away win against Eibar in the Spanish first division game on Saturday.

The Nigerian international was at his best for the Blaugranes in the 2021-22 season – he scored 10 goals in eight league games.

She increased her record against Ana Junyent’s side to help Barca get off to a perfect start.

Still in the frenzy of the 3-1 away win over Madrid last time, Eibar started the game on an impressive note and had the first chance to score, but Cata Coll parried a threatening free kick.

This turned out to be a reality check for the reigning European champions who soon took control of possession.

They took the lead in the 19th minute when Swiss star Ana Crnogorcevic headed past goalkeeper Noelia Garcia after a Lieke Martens cross.

Five minutes later, Oshoala doubled the visitors’ lead after tucking the ball into an empty net after a scramble in the Eibar penalty area. However, Crnogorcevic has to be credited for disrupting the hosts’ defense.

In the first half, which was full of goals, Jonatan Giraldez scored three goals in the lead six minutes before half-time, thanks to Jenni Hermoso, who was called up by Dutch star Maertens.

Barca almost scored more goals before half-time but they wasted those opportunities.

While Maria Leon shot over the bar, Claudia Pina’s powerful shot was blocked by goalkeeper Noelia Garcia.

Many would have predicted a ton of goals in the second half, but Eibar showed a solid defensive to keep the result decent.

The four-time African of the Year Oshoala was replaced by Norwegian midfielder Ingrid Engen after 59 minutes.

On the other hand, Zambia’s international Racheal Kundananji was introduced a minute before the hour for Ana de Teresa. In contrast, Ruth Alvarez from Equatorial Guinea and Noko Matlou from South Africa were not listed for the action.

Blaugranes remains at the top of the Spanish top division with 27 points from the first nine league games played so far.

Unbeaten in their last 12 games in all competitions, Barcelona will host Levante in their next league game on November 13 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Three days earlier, they met in a Champions League match against the German club Hoffenheim.
