A recently launched groundbreaking app is set to revolutionize the Nigerian fashion industry.
Developed by fashion technology company Catwalk Creatives Limited, a sister company of Lassod Consulting, Oyoyo will connect designers, tailors and (Aso Ofi) weavers in Nigeria with a nationwide customer base.
Designed and built by Nigerian technology engineers, the technologically advanced app is a digital ecosystem and marketplace where artisans, weavers and fashion designers can create online profiles to connect with customers across the country and around the world. Each profile offers the designer the opportunity to create seasonal or style-oriented “lookbooks” as well as to promote his specializations and skills and to advertise his characteristic designs.
Building on the legacy of the Nigerian fashion and traditional textile industries, the app uses technology to leverage the history of garments designed and manufactured by individual fashion designers and weavers and catalog them in an accessible format. Creating this resource allows for easy reordering and a point of reference for customers.
Traditionally, fashion artisans rely on word of mouth and regular customers to grow their businesses. They travel to visit customers to discuss their requirements and determine their measurements. The app extends the traditional Schneider operating model by opening up the market, removing barriers to growth, building a strong online presence and expanding its commercial opportunities.
A unique advantage of Oyoyo is the intuitive measurement management function, which fashion designers can use to record, save and convert measurements of the individual in the desired format. The creation of this order history creates transparency between the tailor and customer and improves overall productivity and quality level.
Customers, or the “Oyoyo Fashionistas” as the app calls them, can search, like, comment and follow individual craftsmen and designers, as well as connect with them and access their services.
Speaking at the launch, Lanre Sanni, Chairman of the Board, said, “This is an exciting time for Catwalk Creatives and Lassod as Oyoyo is the first of our products to be launched in Nigeria. I am very proud that an idea that I had a few years ago is now being realized. Oyoyo uses visual technology in a very accessible way as a digital marketplace and will showcase local talent on both a national and international level. “
Oyoyo is supported by Lindsay Burham-Lowes, Chief Executive Officer, and Faith Olaniran, Intern.
Mr Sanni also stated, “With most of the development happening in the past 12 months, the pandemic has proven that despite the distance between the teams, we all have a common goal to be successful. The impact Oyoyo will have on the fashion industry in Nigeria is significant, opening up new opportunities that were previously impossible. “
In addition to building the core team, the company recently ran a recruiting program that implemented a digital marketing team and a business development team. The company is keen to expand this further and offers a comprehensive internship program to develop talent in the region.
Lanre Sanni stated:
“It is our mission to create sustainable business opportunities through recruitment and technical innovation in Nigeria and across the African continent. I know talent is abundant and we have ambitious plans to use those skills. “
The Oyoyo app is available for Android and currently offers a free subscription to designers, tailors, weavers and other professionals in the fashion industry. Access is free for customers.
