Team South Africa has got off to a perfect start in its Billie Jean King Cup Europe / Africa Group III tournament on Tuesday in Vilnius, Lithuania.
South Africa defeated their African colleague Namibia in their first meeting in Group F 3-0.
Tournament debutante Delien Kleinhans went for South Africa first and didn’t waste time beating Carita Moolman (Namibia) in straight sets 6-1 6-0.
Then it was your turn Chanel Simmonds, the South African number one who gave their country victory over the Namibians when they defeated Georgina Moolman, 6-0 6-1 to give South Africa a 2-0 lead.
In the tie final, Simmonds teamed up with another debutante Lara van der Merwe for the dead rubber. The South Africans simply disposed of Georgina Moolman and Theron 6-0 6-1 in less than an hour to give South Africa an all-important 3-0 win.

Team captain, Roxanne Clarke was satisfied with the overall performance of their team against Namibia. “I’m really happy with the way the team played today. We were very focused and definitely took care of the business. “
“It feels great to take a look at that first win and get rid of those first match jitters. While we weren’t really tested, this draw was very important in building our confidence for the rest of the tournament, ”added Clarke.
South Africa will face either Montenegro or Azerbaijan on Wednesday.
