With just a few days between games and some travel distance, Hugo Broos has probably already committed to his South African starting XI for the home game against Ethiopia.
Here we look at how South Africa could line up against Ethiopia on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.
Prediction of the starting XI of South Africa
After scoring a massive goal in Saturday’s game, Ronwen Williams will undoubtedly be the first name on Broos’ team sheet.
Broos should show confidence in Terrence Mashego after a stable, albeit unspectacular debut for Bafana Bafana at left-back, he grew into this game and would benefit from another 90 minutes against the Walias.

Nyiko Mobbie switched flanks in the last game and was probably the best player in Broos’ backline.

Despite a few shaky moments, Broos is likely to believe in Rushine de Reuck and Siyanda Xulu, with the latter establishing himself as the leader of this defensive unit.

Mothobi Mvala and Teboho Mokoena were South Africa’s best players in the last game and losing both would be a major disruption to the team’s formation.
After coming on as a sub for Ethan Brooks, who was overwhelmed as a liaison officer, Yusuf Maart has certainly done enough to earn a start in the same role as South Africa attempted to complete a double over Ethiopia.
Victor Letsoalo is another player who deserves a start as he struggled to find the pace of the game when he showed up as a sub.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane should keep his place on the team but is likely to move to the right to accommodate goalkeeper Evidence Makgopa as a central striker.
