Teen returns to Kenya after successful facial reconstruction at Stony Brook

A teenager from Kenya is on his way home after transforming his life on Long Island.

Saline Atieno had a rare bacterium that was dangerous and disfiguring.

In 2012 Atieno came to Stony Brook for comprehensive treatment. After going home, she suffered from recurring infections and scars and returned to Long Island in 2019.

Now, after more treatment and personal growth, she is returning to Kenya.
