The ‘breathtaking’ city Michaela Strachan calls home in South Africa’s Western Cape

Unlike her Autumnwatch co-stars, Chris Packham, Gillian Burke and Iolo Williams, Michaela Strachan does not live in the UK. The former Countryfile presenter moved more than 8,5000 miles away to South Africa back in 2002 and has lived there ever since. Along with her husband, children and beloved pets, the 56-year-old has settled into a life surrounded by nature in Hout Bay – a harbor town in the Western Cape province.

Where does Michaela Strachan live?

Despite spending most of her life in the UK, wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan decided to swap her country life in Surrey for Cape Town’s unique landscape some 20 years ago.

On her official blog, the nature-lover wrote: “I live in the beautiful coastal town of Hout Bay with a view of the Harbor in front and the mountain behind.”

The presenter is currently in the UK to film four live episodes of Autumnwatch this week and has left behind her family at their stunning home in South Africa.

What does Michaela Strachan’s home look like?

One of the most unique features of Michaela’s home is the view of the famous harbour.

Back in 2014, the Orangutan Diaries presenter told the Mail Online: “We’ve been in this gorgeous house with panoramic views across the harbor for seven years.

“It’s like looking at a picture that changes all the time – from wild storms and forest fires to breathtaking sunsets.”

When not in the UK to fulfill her work commitments, Ms Strachan is often spotted exploring the natural wonders that surround her Cape Town home.

The nature-loving star frequents popular spots including Table Mountain and the rocky Hout Bay coastline with her dogs and partner.

In previous interviews, Michaela revealed that the move to South Africa was a dream come true.

Cape Town had a special place in her heart, as it was where she met her now partner, Nick.

The pair were filming in the world-famous capital in 2022 when Michaela quickly purchased “a small lock-up” in the city.

While talking to You magazine, Michaela opened up about the couple’s relationship. She said: “After a long walk up the mountain together, a bottle of wine at the top and a cable car down, I knew he was the one.”

Having been together since 2003, the pair have made a whole life together in South Africa since moving into their family home which they share with their youngest children – Ollie and Jade.

Michaela added: “It’s a spacious, open-plan house in a beautiful private estate in Hout Bay, nestled between Table Mountain National Park and the sea.

“We have fantastic views and you just go out of a gate and you are straight into the national park.”
