TV presenter Moataz Matar sentenced to 10 years in prison – Politics – Egypt

An Egyptian court on Wednesday in absentia sentenced TV presenter Moataz Matar to ten years in prison and a fine of LE 700 for inciting the overthrow of the regime and spreading false news, a court source said Aswat Masriya said.

Matar, who was convicted in absentia, works for the Al-Sharq Canal, which is for the Muslim Brotherhood. It is said to be broadcast from Turkey.

In February, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry asked European countries to stop broadcasting channels related to the Muslim Brotherhood.

In December 2013, Egypt banned all activities of the Muslim Brotherhood.
