USA cooperates with Nigeria on the G7 infrastructure program

The United States government has announced its intention to work with Nigeria on a G7 infrastructure program.

This was announced by the Deputy National Security Advisor to the White House, Jonathan Finer, on Monday during a visit to the presidential villa in Abuja.

As head of the US delegation, Finer was received by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who invited her to discussions of national importance.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President’s Media and Public Relations, Laolu Akande, said so on Tuesday in a statement titled “We’re glad the US is back on track with climate change,” Osinbajo said.

During the meeting, Finer informed Osinbajo about a possible partnership with Nigeria under a G-7 infrastructure program known as Build Back Better World.

US President Joe Biden launched this program in June 2021 and made it a priority.

Explaining the program, Finer said, “It involves bringing together a range of funding sources, development finance and the private sector to work with key partner countries to develop their infrastructure and to bridge the gap between infrastructure needs and the current state of infrastructure.”

While receiving the welcome development, Osinbajo also took the opportunity to express its gratitude to the US government for donating over 3.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Nigeria.
