Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying – Mozambique – Ivory Coast
Mozambique and Ivory Coast drew from a 0-0 draw on Friday with one point each on the first day of Group D.
The Ivory Coast, led by Patrick Baumelle, who desperately wants a ticket to Qatar after missing the showpiece in Russia in 2018, has come to the Estadio Nacional de Zimpeto with a keen eye for victory, but with a point that might drive them do better in the next game.

They had few chances and well in between, Max Gradel and Sebastian Haller came close, but not close enough to change the score. Mozambican goalkeeper Ernan was always on hand to deal with any threats from Les Elephants.

Towards the end of the game, the Ivorians had a chance of a 1-0 win, but Franck Boli’s connection after a cross on the right side was inches wide.

Meanwhile, coach Hugo Broos’ first appearance in South Africa ended in a stalemate when Bafana Bafana suffered another goalless draw with Zimbabwe’s Brave Warriors.

Just like the Ivory Coast game, the odds were slim and far in between. Thabani Kamusoko, Tino Kadewere and Khama Billiat all had scoring chances, but none could disturb Ronwen Williams in the South African goal.

However, the group is expected to break up when South Africa meets Ghana on Matchday 2, while Zimbabwe meets Ethiopia in the other Group G game.
