Why Kenya sees the accession of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a turning point for intra-regional trade in East Africa

Shortly before the Democratic Republic of the Congo was officially admitted to the East African Community (EAC), Kenya organized a 200-strong trade delegation to the Central African country in November.

Kenyan firms that have shown interest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo include Jubilee Insurance, Equity Bank and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), which have launched a plan to get into the country by acquiring an existing lender.

Deepening relations between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of the Congo

According to Equity Group – a key player in the strategy – the 15-day trade mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo from November 29 to December 2021 should deepen trade ties between Nairobi and Kinshasa.
